The WPC board has approved changes to our scholarship, which will be awarded in the spring of 2010. The scholarship money totals $2,000 and will be either awarded in full or in part to one or more candidates. The completed application form, letter of recommendation, and work samples must be postmarked by February 1, 2010 and mailed to:

In the past, our scholarship was open to Friends, Newman and Wichita State university students only. This year the board decided to include Butler Community College students as well. To be eligible, students must have declared a major in print or broadcast journalism, mass communications, public relations or advertising. Applicants must have completed a minimum of 45 hours of college credit with an overall grade point average of 3.0.

Another change this year is the deadline date. All four schools will receive information about the scholarship and applications before the end of November. The deadline for submitting completed applications has been moved from the end of March to February 1. This change will give students time to work on their applications over Christmas break and will enable us to award scholarships before the end of the school year.

WPC awards all qualified applicants, whether or not they receive a monetary award, memberships in our local WPC chapter, Kansas Professional Communicators, and the National Federation of Press Women.
